Moisturizing bomb pleasing? These 6 hair masks for dry & straw hair.
A hair mask moisturizes and is the secret weapon against dry hair.
Especially now in winter. Because the heaters are running at full speed and the air is dry.
Too dry.
I notice this clearly on my skin and on my hair.
You can also see that at dew point . This now falls more often below 4 ° C and thus is not enough moisture in the air.
Therefore, it is now particularly important in winter to use a hair mask regularly once a week. But please one that also provides your locks with a lot of moisture.
So right moisture bombs.
However, this article is not about hair masks that fortify your curls, repair or similar.
Today it’s about hair masks for more moisture .
But how do you know if your curls need more moisture?
There are certain signs that you recognize that your locks are thirsty and screaming for moisture.
- you have a lot of frizz
- hair breaks very fast
- your hair feels straws
- your hair feels stiff
- it crackles when you reach into your curls
- your curls are dull and dull
- If any of these cries for help apply to your curls, then you’ll need a moisturizing mask.
But how do I even recognize hair masks that mainly moisturize?
Again, it does not stay out of the ingredients to check exactly. But in the end I give, as always, a few product recommendations. Do not worry 😉
So now let’s examine what makes a good hair mask:
The hair mask contains no harmful ingredients
Of course, as with all your hair products, your hair mask should not contain any ingredients that are harmful to your curls.
So no:
- Silicone
- Drying out alcohol
- Strong attractants
In addition, I always pay attention to high quality products and recommend as good as possible, there are no products that contain harmful or environmentally harmful substances such as:
- micro plastic
- formaldehyde
- PEGs
- parabens
A hair mask is only as good as its ingredients. You should always be aware of that.
The hair mask contains at least one humidifier
Moisturizers are the ingredients that help to bring the actual moisture in the form of water into your hair.
Make sure that one or more of the following ingredients are well in the lead, preferably in the top 5, in the ingredient list of the hair mask of your choice:
- Aloe Vera
- Xanthan gum
- glycerin
- Sodium PCA
- panthenol
The hair mask contains no or very few proteins
I do not want to demonize the proteins here. They fulfill their purpose and can be absolutely super for your curls care.
But if all your hair products contain proteins, it can happen very quickly that your hair gets a protein shock.
The result is straw and dry hair.
I would like to write a special article about proteins, if that interests you? Leave a comment to me.
So, when your hair needs moisture, you do not need any or just a few proteins.
Therefore make sure that the following ingredients do not appear or are very far back in the INCIs list:
- collage
- keratin
- rice protein
- silk protein
- soy protein
- wheat protein
- silk amino acids
- milk
The hair mask contains oils and / or butter that trap the moisture
Oils and butter are important to keep the moisture in your hair. Therefore, make sure you have one or more of the following ingredients in your hair mask:
- Shea butter
- Avocado oil / butter
- Cocoa butter
- Mango butter
- Olive oil
- Coconut Oil
- Argan Oil
- Jojoba Oil
- Almond Oil (almond oil)
And where do you get such a hair mask now?
If you go to the next drugstore market now, I wish you the best of luck! I have looked at many products and have not found a single mask that would be suitable.
Of course, I have not looked at all the products that exist in the world. So if you discover a hair mask that meets all the criteria, then I would be very happy if you write them in the comments.
Okay, then what to buy online?
Even online, it looks rare.
If you already know my blog, you know that I have found suitable products for you 😉
I have not tested all the following hair masks myself, as I always exhaust one before I start a new one.
Nevertheless, I can recommend these hair masks without hesitation, as the ingredients are great.
Nevertheless, every curly head is different and you should therefore always carry out an allergy test before you use new products.
Mask For dry hair and Deep Conditioning Treatment
OK, now you got one of the above mentioned moisture bombs or you found a suitable mask somewhere else.
Now you are standing in the bathroom at home and may ask:
How do you apply these now exactly?
In the first step you wash your hair with conditioner or a curly shampoo. Then you take some of the mask and spread it in your wet hair
Your hair is so wet and freshly washed. Please do not wear it on dry hair.
That would be a waste of money.
Only water can moisturize your curls. The hair mask only helps you to carry the water into your hair and keep it there.
You have now spread the hair mask everywhere and lets it work for about 20-30 minutes.
If you have low-porous hair, I recommend using heat during the exposure time. The heat opens the cuticle layer of your hair, allowing even more moisture to penetrate.
Either you wrap a warm towel around your head or you use a thermal hood * .
I got this steam device * . This not only gives heat, but also moisture in the form of water vapor.
Conclusion
It’s not so easy to find a good hair mask that only moisturizes.
The selection is pretty low and the price is often high.
Nevertheless, the investment is worthwhile.
For such a hair mask also easily lasts 6-9 months. At least my Camille Rose hair mask is still about half full and I bought last year in the fall.
But I have to admit that last winter I often used the homemade hair mask from my free e-book . Therefore, probably my quantity is not so representative.
Nevertheless. If you use a high quality hair cure, you will need less and it will last longer.
Which hair mask for more moisture do you use?
