The dress code of the next edition held last night, we remind you, is “Garden of Time”. Killer interpretations, fairytale fantasy, and truly phenomenal styling work—we’re looking down the best of the first Monday in May, as Met Gala tradition dictates.

The best outfits from the Met Gala 2024

Every year, the Met Gala red carpet invariably produces fashion moments destined to go down in history. Tracing the past three decades,

The last issue was about the work of Karl Lagerfeld, both the various fashion houses he created over the years and his eponymous brand.

The dress code for this year’s edition of The Garden of Time was inspired by the 1962 short story of the same name by J. J. Ballard and offered wide possibilities for interpretations. In keeping with that bold and avant-garde spirit that has always distinguished Met Gala red carpet fashion.

The two most incredible outfits at the Met Gala 2024: Zendaya in Margiela and Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne

As expected, Zendaya once again made a bid to go down in history with one of the most spectacular looks at the Met Gala 2024. The Dune Part 2 and Challengers star hadn’t appeared at the event since 2019, hence the huge expectations.

Not a hint of disappointment: Zendaya is divine in a Maison Margiela Artisanal haute couture dress created especially for her by John Galliano in sage-colored burnt lamé and organza, with a hand-painted duchess satin corset with naturalistic motifs in electric blue and emerald green. To top it all off, a feather-embellished veil created by Stephen Jones for Maison Margiela.

The Most Terrifying Met Gala Outfits Over the Years

No less remarkable, however, was the Thom Browne creation worn by Gigi Hadid: a white off-the-shoulder corset dress plus a white silk moiré coat studded with 3D yellow roses at the bottom…

Made entirely by hand, the outfit was in the hands of 70 tailors who put in 13,500 hours of work. It’s no surprise that it will become part of the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, as announced last night.

In the gallery below are the most memorable looks from last night, a triumph of fantasy and supreme tailoring. And here we recall the most interesting thing from the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023. Stay tuned for more details from last night.
