BREAST PROSTHESIS CONTROL
We recommend that you have your breast prostheses checked on a regular basis and have them replaced if necessary.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide an unambiguous answer about the period within which breast prostheses should be replaced.
We currently recommend having breast implants older than 10 years old replaced.
Of course, there is a chance that your breast prostheses are intact after 10 years, but because the prostheses subject to wear and tear, it recommended to have the implants replaced.
The manufacturer of breast prostheses gives a 10-year warranty on the implants.
For the more recent breast prostheses, it recommended they checked regularly by means of an ultrasound. The advice of your gynecologist is also important.
Both MRI and ultrasound recommended the condition of your breast prostheses checked.
WHEN DO YOU HAVE YOUR BREAST PROSTHESES REPLACED?
It recommended your breast implants replaced in the following situations:
- If you have to deal with severe capsular contracture. Capsule formation can make your breast harder, or even change its shape. At a more advanced stage, capsular contracture can cause discomfort and even pain,
- If you have older breast forms,
- In case of leaking or ruptured breast prostheses,
- If your breasts are less firm after weight loss or pregnancy,
- If you want larger or rather smaller prostheses.

DIFFERENCES FROM YOUR FIRST BREAST AUGMENTATION
Replacing your breast implants may be slightly different from your initial breast augmentation:
INCISION
In principle, our plastic surgeon will take the place of your old scar to replace your breast prostheses.
IMPLANT POSITION
Also regarding the position of the implant, our surgeon prefers not to change anything. If you placed breast prostheses above the muscle for the first time, this will also be the case with your second procedure.
BREAST IMPLANT SIZE
If you have your breast prostheses replaced, it is easy to keep the same size.
Of course, you can choose to have larger prostheses placed during your second procedure. If larger prostheses used, you will again experience some inconvenience in the first days after your operation.
If you also need to have capsular contracture removed in addition to your prostheses, we recommend that you go for slightly larger prostheses. The hairstyle will have slightly enlarged the pocket created, so that extra space needs to be filled.
